Briefly:
I saw in the news the team up in Space reported to back to Earth how much environmental damage is visible from space.
Ummm...how much rocket fuel did they burn to GET to space?
I don't know how much money is being dumped into the Space program by the United States government, but I will tell you this much: whatever amount it is, it's too much. We live in a country that is being slowly destroyed by mass consumption of natural resources. Endangered species are threatened daily. Why, I've also read that grizzly bears, of which there are approxiamately 1,600 left in the United States, are being taken OFF the endangered species list by the Bush administration, in order to allow more human populating in areas of Yellowstone and other grizzly habitats. I suppose that most of the astronauts in space currently would also feel sorry for the grizzly bear, but by floating around outside the Earth's atmosphere, I don't know what good they are really doing.
You know, N.A.S.A. is like that really impressive computer that no one can afford. Sure, it's great that someone was bright enough to pull off space missions, but what good does it really do? In the end, astronauts leave more crap in space (like really bad Girl Scouts who know better), and do very little except repair the shuttles they got to space on in the first place. If they never left Earth, then they wouldn't have to fix the shuttle. Or, better yet, if they hadn't left Earth, taxpayers would have saved a bunch of money that could go to something more important...like cleaning up Earth's atmosphere.
This WOULD be a great segway to my beef with air shows hosted by the U.S. Airforce...they are always advertised as 'free', so a whole bunch of schmucks show up to watch billions of dollars of aircraft lifted into the sky and whirling around on about a million dollar tab...paid for by the American citizens. Those 'free' airshows are a total ripoff for the American taxpayer...But I can't really get into that today, because I have to get ready for work. I'm riding my motorcycle in, since it uses so little gas...

What I Live By:
We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. Through the unknown, unremembered gate When the last of earth left to discover Is that which was the beginning; At the source of the longest river The voice of the hidden waterfall And the children in the apple-tree Not known, because not looked for But heard, half-heard, in the stillness Between two waves of the sea. Quick now, here, now, alwaysâ A condition of complete simplicity (Costing not less than everything) And all shall be well and All manner of thing shall be well When the tongues of flame are in-folded Into the crowned knot of fire And the fire and the rose are one. -T.S. Eliot "Little Gidding"
